“I founded Eddystone on the belief that tutors should be both mentors and teachers to their students. As a student at Monkton Combe School in Bath, the teachers who made the greatest impact on me were those who guided my choices, supported my learning and built my confidence. They were as much mentors to me as they were teachers. The very reason I decided to study English at university was down to two specific teachers who were attached to my boarding accommodation, Eddystone House. Despite my early resistance and lack of self belief, they broke through my barriers and moulded my learning so that I actually began to enjoy English. I firmly believe our tutors at Eddystone need to be the greatest source of encouragement for our students, complimenting the work they complete at school. We need to be that older sibling figure, who pushes them to keep going and ultimately achieve their full potential.”
